Sanctuary of the Nymph. Black-figure Loutrophoroi : Supplementum

After a proposal by the Management of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, fragments of vases from a private collection were returned to Greece. As was already known, these fragments were closely connected with the Sanctuary of the Nymph on the south slope of the Acropolis, and some of them belong to loutrophoroi already published in my study Ιερό της Νύμφης. Μελανόμορφες Λσυτροφόροι (Sanctuary of the Nymph. Black-figure Loutrophoroi) (Archaeological Receipts Fund, Athens 1997).In the Supplement to the above study, some loutrophoroi published in it are presentedagain with the same catalogue numbers, in the more complete form they have acquired after the addition of the new sherds drawn from the above material.I cite only a few examples that reveal the great importance of the repatriated fragments. No. 104, fig. 6: the neck of the vase and a large part of the body are added; no. 142, fig. 8: the decoration on the neck of the vase and on body is completed; nos 307+279, fig. 17: the main motif is fully restored; no. 355, fig. 21: a mythological subject, the Judgement of Paris, is revealed.
