The street - planning system of ancient Rhodes

The investigation by the Archaeological Service of the sites for construction of the city of Rhodes for the duration of the last twenty years has had for its principal scope the discovery and study of the street-planning scheme of ancient Rhodes. The research broughtto light 78 streets of the ancient city, and through the discovery of portions of the ancient wall, defined its limits (plan 1 ). Thus Rhodes is confirmed as the only city of the Greek land with a road system in the hippodameion manner, based on archaeological results.
