The author offers a survey of eight centuries of Staff Military Education in modern Greece, based mainly on evidence from unpublished documents preserved in official Greek and French archives. The study follows the evolution of Greek military schools, their scope, their organization, their practices and their contribution to the development of Greek military institutions from 1925 to the present day, stressing in particular the role of French specialists in the modernization of the Greek Army.
