Abstract:
In this article, we examine critically, at first, the classical theories of socialization and development (Parsons and Piaget) that have determined the childhood research. We present, then, the theoretical principles that interpretive perspectives have introduced in the sociology of childhood and we focus on the new paradigm of Sociology of Childhood. We discuss its analytical tools, its theoretical perspectives and their connection with central theoretical issues of social theory: social structural childhood, minority group child, socially constructed childhood and children as actors. The main concern of the new paradigm is the emergence of the childhood question as one of the main issues of social theory.
