Language development in the first year of life

This study aims at presenting the development of language and the processing of speech from birth on and during the first year of human life. The results of many studies show that infants, a few days after birth, begin by paying attention mainly to the prosodic properties of speech. The reactions of infants from different linguistic environments are also presented and the differences and the similarities of their speech processing are analysed among the three of the most widely spoken languages, English, French and Japanese.
