Abstract:
The icon of Saviour (39 x 36 cm) from a private collection in Moscow is a very rare work of art. It is dated to the twelfth century on the basis of its style and the mode of painting which has close affinities to the Russian and Byzantine frescoes and icons of the first half–second quarter of this century, for instance, to the images of Mandylion and Keramidion in the Catholicon of Mirozh monastery, Pskov. The particularity of the panel confirms the early date of the icon.
