Abstract:
The wall paintings of St Paraskevi of Vikos at Zagori, dated to 1414, were most likely executed by a skilled artist from Ioannina. The important donor’s inscription mentions the Despot of Ioannina, Duke Carlo I Tocco (1411-1429). The donors representation of the local leader Michael Therianos, his wife Theodora, their son Georgios and their young daughter is especially interesting. The position and size of the wall painting, the hierarchy, clothing and hairstyles of the represented figures are particularly revealing about the mentality, the moral principles of the time period and of the region, as well as about the type of clothing worn by the ruling class.
