Abstract:
This paper considers state of the art issues concerning the exploitation of the Semantic Web technologies and applications in economic and financial information management systems. In the finance world knowledge is pervasive and the very artifacts of banking and investment, banking accounts and financial instruments, are knowledge rich in their structure, as are the policies that govern their use. Financial service providers need to manage enterprise risks, such as operational risk-anti-money laundering, and regulatory compliance. The management and interoperation of semantically diverse economic and financial information systems are facilitated by Semantic Web technologies. Among the reasons for adopting Semantic Web technologies to enhance solutions are: a) achieving enterprise data: integration and interoperability across multiple databases and information sources; b) effective integration of data and capabilities in mergers and acquisitions; c) operational integrity: policy-driven information and application access; d) proof and security: identify management and fraud prevention; e) customer intimacy: knowledge-driven call center support; f) smarter content management of external and internal knowledge resources; g) knowledge asset management: knowledge classification and knowledge networks; h) regulatory compliance: governance and accountability (e.g., Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002).
